There have actually been vehicles called 'minicars' and 'microcars' for many years, at least since the second world war.   At least three appear to be currently available new, in the U.S.

Smart Car
 Smart Cars are relatively high-end.  The above link is to their interface to the USA; it has lots of pictures, and a downloadable PDF brochure.  There is also a Smart Car Community, new as of June 2005.  According to this page, they are a brand of DaimlerChrysler.  The first Smart Car sold to the USA was via eBay, #4556842599, for $35,350.00.  However, according to this page, Smart Cars are currently available in the U.K. starting at about US$12,000.

 OKA
 The OKA  is a minicar made in Russia, being exported to the U.S. since 2003.  The above is their USA-based web site.  There are several models legal for U.S. street driving, starting at $7,990, and technical specifications are available for all of them on the web site.  Click here for the vehicles, which include urban, touring, pickup, cargo box, electric, patrol, and SUV versions.
Crazy Cars & Vehicles
 crazy-cars.de is one of the most intriguing general retail web sites for little cars in the whole world.  There is a page right here offering direct exports to the U.S.A.  Apparently within the minicar category is a really neat little car called the MiniBuggy, styled like a very modern dune buggy, for about US$13,000.  The MiniBuggy looks a lot more like 'car' than 'scooter', though we have little certain data.

Ligier
 Ligier is a current make of little car, in France.  Ligier vehicles are available only in Europe at present, so far as the author knows.  There are apparently two models, the Ambra and the BeUp.  The author has been able to obtain almost no details at all.  The cars are reportedly being distributed in the U.K. through a larger company called Reliant, and on the Reliant web site are some pages devoted to Ligier.  The best info on Ligier as whole which the author has found is here on RUMcars. Although Ligier is a French company, the only web site the author has been able to find is www.ligier.it, in Italy.
